ODD EYE CIRCLE (Hangul: 이달의 소녀 오드아이써클), stylized as LOONA/ODD EYE CIRCLE or LOOΠΔ/ODD EYE CIRCLE, is the second sub-unit of the girl group LOONA and first sub-unit of the girl group ARTMS. They debuted with members Kim Lip, JinSoul and Choerry on September 21, 2017 with their mini album Mix & Match, alongside the title track “Girl Front”.

On October 31, 2017, they had a comeback with a repacked version of their first album, titled Max & Match with the lead single “Sweet Crazy Love”.

On March 17, 2023, all three members of ODD EYE CIRCLE left BlockBerryCreative, their original label, and signed with MODHAUS,^[2] headed by former BlockBerryCreative director Jaden Jeong. MODHAUS subsequently submitted a trademark request for the name “ODD EYE CIRCLE (오드아이써클)” on March 27, 2023.^[3]

On July 12, 2023, ODD EYE CIRCLE released their second mini album <Version Up> and its title song “Air Force One”, marking it as their first release in nearly six years.

Name[]

The unit’s Korean name is pronounced Idalui Sonyeo Odeu-ai-sseokeul (Korean: 이달의 소녀 오드아이써클) from the Sino-Korean root meaning “Girl of the Month” combined with the transliteration of words ODD (오드), eye (아이) and circle (써클) from English.

The English format of ODD EYE CIRCLE is also used in both Japanese and Chinese.

Concept[]

ODD EYE CIRCLE’s music represents itself a girl crush concept around the theme of love and attraction. The members are portrayed as being playful and tempting while expressing their fondness and seduction towards their beloved ones. Other subjects in their songs include playfulness, temptation, romance and intimacy.

The three girls of ODD EYE CIRCLE talk about how you shouldn’t wait for love to happen passively, but should take the initiative to make it happen yourself. Each member possesses one unique eye that glows an upward crescent in their representative color. The members are also each associated with a moon.

They are believed to possess unique powers. Kim Lip has the power of traveling through time through speed. JinSoul is able to travel in space (teleportation) and Choerry has a link to mirrors, in order to transport through other member’s universes.

Trivia[]

The three letters in “ODD” represent three overlapping moons.
In the sub-unit, JinSoul is the oldest and Choerry is the youngest.
All three can play the piano, but only JinSoul and Kim Lip can read sheet music. Choerry can only read chords and numbers.
Only Kim Lip can play instruments other than keyboards and piano, such as the violin.
Two of the three member are actually even-numbered (in terms of when they were revealed) rather than odd. Kim Lip was sixth, Choerry was eighth.
Only Kim Lip wasn’t born in June.
Their debut stage was on M Countdown. They were there when TWICE won on M Countdown for their song “Likey”.^[6]
- They are also the first sub-unit to not exclusively perform on Inkigayo.
In 2023, all three left BlockBerry Creative and signed with MODHAUS along with HeeJin and later HaSeul.
