Kim Lip (Hangul: 김립, Gim lib; Japanese: キムリップ[11], Kimu rippu; Chinese: 金立, Jīnlì) is the sixth member of the girl group LOONA.

She is the fifth oldest in LOONA, the leader of the sub-unit ODD EYE CIRCLE, and was revealed on May 15, 2017. Her solo single album Kim Lip was released on May 23, 2017.

In the group, she's represented by an owl and the color red. In ODD EYE CIRCLE, she has the superpower “Time Travel”.

Names[]

While in school, Kim Lip was often teased about her name, which she shares with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un. In South Korea, Jung-eun (정은) is generally a female name, and many actresses and other celebrities have the name Kim Jeong-eun. Although the pronunciation is the same in Korean, Kim Lip’s name (金定恩) is written differently in Chinese characters than the dictator’s (金正恩).

In 2022, she revealed that her stage name came from the company, as that Hanja for Lip (立) means "to establish", given that she was the first member and leader of ODD EYE CIRCLE. She is the only member from Stage Name Line that has Hanja in her stage name.

Personality[]

  • Out of all the members, Kim Lip has the earliest bedtime of 10:00 pm.[16]
  • She wakes up early, too. She is the most alert at around 2pm, when it's most other members' bedtime. (LOONA TV#716, 717)
  • She is also the earliest to wake up. However, she has to take naps in choreography practices because of it.
  • In general, Kim Lip is a morning person.[17]
  • She dislikes messes and sometimes she throws away the other member's socks when they leave them out.
  • She get embarrassed and annoyed easily.
  • She tends to hold the camera upside down.
  • She dislikes aegyo, either by her doing it, or others doing aegyo to her.

  • Her role models are Park Hyoshin and Tori Kelly.
  • She met Chuu before the formation of the group since they graduated from Hanlim Multi Arts School together, but their friendlship predates that because they moved from their hometown to Seoul together just to start high school.
    • They are both close friends of JooE of Momoland.
      • On the 7th episode of Chuu Can Do It, she was unable to join the high school reunion with Chuu and JooE due to conflicting schedules.
    • They are also friends with Yeonjung of WJSN.[17][21]
  • When HaSeul was on hiatus, she shared leadership duties with Yves, but Kim Lip led the greetings. Kim Lip remained as the MC of the group after HaSeul's return.
  • She is friends with Jane of Momoland.
  • She's also friends with Kim Sihyeon of Everglow. Sihyeon mentioned in a VLIVE that the two of them still keep in touch.

Pre-Debut life[]

  • She was cast by BlockBerryCreative via Instagram.
  • She used to have bottom braces.
  • Kim Lip attended Hanlim Multi Arts School with many other idols including her co-bandmate Chuu.
    • Due to her parents being unsupportive of her idol career and her decision to move to Seoul, she had to travel to Seoul alone to take her entrance exam for the school.[27]
  • She recited the poem ‘That song had no echoes’ by Im Khoung Sub for Weekly Poem 2.
  • She shares the same name as Kim Sakkat (aka "Kim Lip"), an eccentric and Bohemian wandering poet who was renowned during the Joseon dynasty of Korea.[citation needed]
