“Not Friends” is a collaborative single between LOONA and producer Ryan S. Jhun. It is the second installment to his music project "Maxis by Ryan Jhun" (also known as KEEP MUSIC ALIVE).
A “Special Edition” version of the single with three remixes and the song’s instrumental was released on October 27, 2021.[1]
Sometime in 2023, the song was taken down from streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.

Premier K-pop producer Ryan Jhun releases “Not Friends”, opening part 2 of the album Maxis. In this single, which follows the successful release of “Maniac” with NCT U (Doyoung, Haechan), members HeeJin, Kim Lip, JinSoul, and Yves of LOONA who collaborated on newest title track “PTT (Paint The Town)” provided supporting fire. Notable is the fact that alongside frequent Ryan Jhun collaborator and singer-songwriter YOUHA, Kim Lip also participated in lyric-writing.
“Not Friends” is a pop number reflecting K-pop trend-setter Ryan Jhun and his team’s color, with an attractive sound that seems to straddle the border between acoustic rock and hip-hop. Standing out are the lyrics painting a bold desire to break down the boundary between friend and lover, and the veteran tempo control that has a calm delivery breaking into swagger-laden vocals. The music video by Sunny Visual director Yoo Sung-kyun, which expresses the LOONA members as four killers in pursuit of a mysterious object, reflects LOONA’s lore to increase immersion with the music.
Ryan Jhun has recently topped the charts with IU’s “Celebrity” and Oh My Girl’s “Dun Dun Dance”, and with over 10 million copies sold over 10 years and dominating domestic music charts on several occasions, he is one of the most influential and popular producers.[2]

케이팝의 초특급 프로듀서 라이언전이 앨범명 ‘맥시스(MAXIS)’의 파트2를 여는 디지털 싱글 ‘Not Friends’를 발매한다. NCT U (도영, 해찬)과 성공적으로 진행했던 첫 싱글 ‘매니악(Maniac)’에 이은 이번 싱글에는 최신 타이틀곡인 ‘PTT (Paint The Town)’을 통해 호흡을 맞춘 바 있는 이달의 소녀의 희진, 김립, 진솔, 그리고 이브가 지원 사격에 나섰다. 라이언전과 여러 작품을 함께 해온 싱어송라이터 YOUHA(유하)와 함께 김립이 가사에 참여하여 눈길을 끈다.

한편, 라이언전은 최근 아이유의 ‘셀레브리티(Celebrity)’와 오마이걸의 ‘던던댄스(Dun Dun Dance)’로 차트 정상을 차지한 바가 있고, 10년동안 총 1000만장 이상의 앨범 판매고를 기록하며 국내 주요 음원차트를 여러 차례 석권하는 등 가장 영향력있는 핫한 프로듀서로 활동하고 있다.[3]

케이팝의 초특급 프로듀서 라이언전이 앨범명 ‘맥시스(MAXIS)’ 파트2의 ‘Not Friends’ 리믹스 앨범을 발매한다. 이번 리믹스 앨범에는 원곡의 공동 프로듀서인 타이도(Tido)와 라이언전과 여러 차례 호흡을 맞춰온 프로듀서 알란(Alawn)이 참여하며 다채로운 사운드스케이프를 선보이고 있다.
앨범의 서막을 알리는 알란 리믹스(Alawn Remix)는 서정적인 분위기와 덥스텝 비트가 절묘하게 버무려져서 원곡과는 다른 재미를 선사한다. 이어서 타이도 리믹스(Tido Remix)는 원곡보다 미니멀하면서 스산한 분위기를 연출한다. 알란이 참여한 오르빗 리믹스(Orbit Remix)는 EDM 문법에 더 충실하게 접목한 곡으로 드랍에서의 사운드가 인상적이다. 이외에 오리지널과 인스트 버전까지 총 5개의 곡이 수록된 이번 리믹스 앨범은 ‘Not Friends’의 다양한 세계관을 선보이고자 한 라이언전의 의도가 담겨 있다.[4]
