Choerry (Hangul: 최리)[3] is a South Korean singer. She is the eighth revealed member of LOONA and a member of its second sub-unit, ODD EYE CIRCLE, She is also a member of ARTMS.

She was born as Choi Ye-rim (Hangul: 최예림) on June 4, 2001, in Bucheon, South Korea.

She debuted on July 12, 2017 as a member and subsequently released her solo single album Choerry on July 28, 2017.

History

Early life

Choerry was born on June 4, 2001 in Bucheon, South Korea. She is the eldest of three daughters, the youngest born in 2008. Her father runs a machine repair business. She attended Yeo-weol Elementary School.

Choerry appeared on a 2009 episode of Happy Time, Fantastic Mates (환상의 짝꿍) when she was seven years old, and performed a dance cover of Son Dam-bi’s “Saturday Night.”[4]

Choerry performed a cover of Taeyeon’s “The Blue Night of Jeju Island” at a festival on April 23, 2016.[5]

Choerry was initially cast after participating in a vocal contest.[6] She later passed her audition for Polaris/BlockBerryCreative and became a trainee at the same time as fellow members HaSeul and YeoJin,[7] either late 2015 or early 2016. Choerry and HaSeul lived near each other and would commute to Polaris-BlockBerry together as trainees.

2017: Reveal, solo debut, ODD EYE CIRCLE, “new”

On July 4, 2017, the eighth “Who’s Next Girl?” teaser was released, and Choerry was revealed as the eighth member on July 12. She released her solo single album Choerry on July 28, and subsequently debuted as a member of LOONA.

On August 29, Choerry was revealed as the maknae of LOONA’s second sub-unit, ODD EYE CIRCLE.

On November 28, Choerry appeared in Yves's music video for “new”.

2018: “One & Only”, Woomanna, debut in LOONA

On January 30, 2018, Choerry appeared in Go Won's music video for “One & Only”.

From February to March, Choerry starred alongside fellow ODD EYE CIRCLE members Kim Lip and JinSoul in the third season of Woomanna. She played an eighteen-year-old dance major who had been admitted to university early due to her dancing abilities.

On August 20, Choerry officially debuted as a member of the completed group LOONA. She and her members released the mini-album [+ +], along with the title track “Hi High”.

2019: First comeback

On February 19, 2019, LOONA released [X X], a repackage album of [+ +] featuring a new title track “Butterfly”. Choerry participated in choreographing parts of “Butterfly”, and was credited as “Choi-daeri” (최대리, Assistant Manager Choi) on the album.[8]

2020: High school graduation, second comeback

Choerry graduated from Sungshin Girls’ High School in Seoul on January 7, 2020.[9]

On February 5, 2020, LOONA released their second mini-album, [#], featuring the title track “So What”. Along with HeeJin, Yves, and Olivia Hye, Choerry once again participated choreographing the title track and was credited by name in the “Choreography idea” section of the album credits. Jokingly, it was said that other members are interns, and Choerry had been promoted from Assistant Manager (Choi-daeri) to Team Lead.[10]

2022: World tour, legal disputes

On May 31, LOONA released the official announcement poster on social media regarding their first world tour called LOONA 1st World Tour: [LOONATHEWORLD]. Choerry was absent from the Mexico City and Houston, Texas concerts due to health reasons.[11] She was also entirely absent from the European leg of the tour and both Seoul concerts.[12]

On August 22, BlockBerryCreative announced Choerry wouldn't be participating in the KCON LA show due to health reasons.[13]

On November 28, all members of LOONA, except for HyunJin and ViVi, filed injunctions to suspend their exclusive contracts with BlockBerryCreative.[14]

2023: Departure from BlockBerryCreative, signing with MODHAUS, ARTMS, <Version Up>

On January 13, 2023, HeeJin, Kim Lip, JinSoul, and Choerry won their lawsuits to terminate their exclusive contracts with BlockBerryCreative.[15] On February 1, a source from BlockBerryCreative confirmed they will submit a petition asking to suspend their entertainment activities.[16]

On March 3, the eleven remaining members of LOONA performed their first, and likely last, concert in Japan: LOONA 1st Live: LOONA THE WORLD IN TOKYO. Despite winning her injunction against BlockBerryCreative to suspend her contract, Choerry participated in this concert.

On March 17, 2023, HeeJin, Kim Lip, JinSoul, and Choerry were announced to have signed an exclusive contract with MODHAUS.[17] On April 1, they were revealed as a part of a re-debut project called the “ARTMS Strategy”.[18]

On June 19, it was reported ODD EYE CIRCLE will be coming back with a new album in mid-July.[19] On July 12, ODD EYE CIRCLE released their second mini album <Version Up>, marking it as their first release in nearly six years.

On October 29, Choerry made an appearance at “HaSeul 1st Small Theatre Concert 〈HaSeul Music Studio 81.8Hz〉”.

On December 1, Choerry, alongside other ARTMS members released their first pre–debut single “The Carol 3.0”.
